Dycore selection

AMWG scientists are engaged in implementing and evaluating 3 potential dynamical cores for CAM:

• The spectral element (SE) dynamical core
• The Model for Prediction across Scales (MPAS)
• The NOAA’s Finite-Volume Cubed Sphere (FV3) dynamical core.
  
  
  
  We expect that all 3 dycores will be supported at some level. Different dynamical cores may be recommended for different scientific applications. All three dycores will be assessed using a variety of metrics that will include measure of computational accuracy as well as efficiency.
